Custom Kitchen Remodeling in Los Angeles, CA

Custom kitchens for serious houses: cabinetry, stone and lighting chosen for the architecture, built and finished by one contractor from the drawings.

Dick Minium Construction builds custom kitchens for architecturally significant homes, offering custom kitchen remodeling in Los Angeles, CA for owners, their architects, and collectors. The work is built to the drawings: cabinetry, stone, lighting, and the mechanical systems behind them, carried by one contractor from first measurement to final finish. You get a kitchen that belongs to the architecture of the house, not a catalog applied to it. Call 310.392.6622 to begin.

What Our Custom Kitchen Remodeling Covers

A kitchen in a serious house is cabinetry, stone, steel, light, and the systems hidden behind them. We build all of it.

  • Custom kitchen cabinets. Cabinetry designed for the room it lives in, built and installed to the architect's intent. Veneer matching, hardware selection, and reveals held to the drawings, whether the kitchen design is modern or holds to the original period of the house.
  • Stone and countertop work. Slab selection, templating, and fabrication coordination for marble, quartzite, and granite. Edges, seams, and book-matching resolved before the saw runs.
  • Architect designed kitchen renovation. When an owner and architect bring us drawings, we build them. When there are no drawings yet, we work alongside the architect from the first sketch so the kitchen ideas on paper survive contact with the existing structure.
  • Kitchen lighting. Layered light, engineered and installed: task light at the work surfaces, ambient light for the room, and art lighting where the kitchen opens to a gallery or dining space.
  • Electrical, plumbing, and HVAC. The infrastructure a working kitchen needs, routed and concealed so the finished room shows none of it.
  • Structural work. Removed walls, new openings, steel where the span demands it. A kitchen that opens to the rest of the house needs engineering, not optimism.
  • Luxury kitchen renovation of significant rooms. Kitchens in houses by named architects require a different patience. Our work on a John Lautner kitchen in Beverly Hills shows what that looks like in practice.

How the Work Runs

1. The first walk-through

We see the house before we talk about the kitchen. Structure, existing systems, access, and the architecture around the room all shape what the kitchen can become. If an architect is already involved, we review the drawings together.

2. Design and documentation

The kitchen is resolved on paper first. Cabinet elevations, stone layouts, lighting plans, and appliance specifications are settled before demolition. Changes cost little at this stage; they cost a great deal later.

3. Selections

Slabs are viewed and tagged. Cabinet finishes are sampled in the actual light of the room. Hardware, fixtures, and appliances are confirmed and ordered with their lead times known, so the build does not wait on a faucet.

4. The build

Demolition, structure, and rough systems come first. Then cabinetry, stone, tile, and lighting, each trade sequenced by us as the single contractor responsible for the whole. The owner and architect see the room at each stage that matters.

5. Finish and handover

Final finishes, lighting aimed and adjusted, hardware set, and every system tested. We walk the finished kitchen with you against the drawings. If we also keep the house afterward, the kitchen enters that same readiness.

What Shapes the Investment

The honest drivers of cost in this work:

  • Scope of the room. A kitchen renovation within existing walls costs less than one that moves walls, adds steel, or relocates the kitchen within the house.
  • Cabinetry. Custom kitchen cabinets built to the drawings, with matched veneers and specified hardware, are the largest single line in most kitchens. The design of the cabinets, not just their footage, sets the number.
  • Stone and materials. Slab stone varies widely by species and by how it must be cut. Book-matched marble is a different undertaking than a single quartzite island.
  • Systems behind the walls. Older Westside houses often need electrical, plumbing, or HVAC work before the finished kitchen can be built over it. What the walls hide is found early, not during the build.
  • Access and protection. Hillside sites, narrow drives, and houses with art in place require protection, staging, and care that take time.

Every kitchen is priced from its own drawings. Call 310.392.6622 and we will walk the room with you and put a concrete number against the actual scope.

Why Owners and Architects Call Us

Dick Minium Construction is a Westside Los Angeles general contractor for architecturally significant homes and the art inside them. For more than thirty years we have worked with owners, their architects, and collectors on houses that demand uncompromising invention, engineering, and aesthetic perspective. A custom kitchen in such a house is built to the architect's intent, not adapted from stock.

The work runs through three doors into one workshop. Build covers renovations, residential additions, custom kitchens and baths, and hardscape and landscape, built to the drawings. Install covers large sculpture and suspended work, engineered, hung, and lit. Keep is estate management: the houses we built or renovated stay watched and ready, with one call for whatever they need.

For a kitchen, that means one contractor carries the whole room: structure, cabinetry, stone, lighting, and the electrical, plumbing, and HVAC behind them. The price follows the drawings, and the drawings are settled before the work starts, so you know what you are building and why it costs what it costs. We serve Santa Monica, Beverly Hills, Malibu, Pacific Palisades, Brentwood, and West Hollywood.

Custom Kitchen Remodeling Questions, Answered

Do you work with our architect, or do you provide the design?

Both. If you have an architect, we build to the drawings and protect the architect's intent through every trade. If you do not, we work with you from the first kitchen ideas through documentation, selections, and the build itself.

Can you renovate a kitchen in a historically or architecturally significant house?

Yes. Kitchens in significant houses are a specialty, including homes by named architects where original detail must be understood before anything is touched. Our John Lautner kitchen renovation in Beverly Hills is one example of that kind of work.

Who handles the electrical, plumbing, and structural work?

We do, as the general contractor responsible for the whole room. Electrical, plumbing, HVAC, and any structural steel or framing are sequenced and carried by one contractor, so nothing falls between trades.

Are the cabinets truly custom?

Yes. Cabinetry is designed for the specific room, its architecture, and its light, then built and installed to the drawings. Veneers, reveals, interiors, and hardware are specified, not selected from a line.

What happens to the kitchen after the work is done?

If you choose, the house enters our estate management. The home we built or renovated stays watched and ready, and when something in the kitchen or anywhere else needs attention, it is one call.

Can the kitchen renovation be part of a larger project?

Yes. Many kitchens are built within a broader home renovation or a residential addition, and we carry the whole scope as one contractor so the kitchen and the house around it are resolved together.
